    Tire Tread Problem

    Hi guys,
I've been going around this for 2 days now and have found no solution. I've modeled this tire tread 4 to 5 times by now, with different techniques, and got the same problem all the time. The pattern is quite simple, but I cannot find the solution to what's below:

    1. The curved intakes have curved extremes, tried all the hard surface techniques and i always get some pinching when the complete tread bends.
    2. The 'plain' parts of the tire get distorted somehow with bend + TS 1

    Here's what I tried:

    1. Started with spline from front view, extrude » worked from there
    2. Started with cylinder with 32 divisions (in this case) and worked with 1 from there
    3. Started with plane, built everything, array + bend + FFD 5x5

Everything gave the same problems. I'm starting to think that it's due to the very oblique pattern it has.

Tire is - Pirelli Pzero Corsa Asimmetrico

If someone has any ideas for this i would be thankful.

The idea is not to use TS. Use smoothing group instead. Add more crease if necessary so they can bend smoothly.

If I'm understanding this correctly; my workaround to that was to simply turbosmooth before the bend modifier in the plane technique. However that means that if you want to weld the ends you have to work with the dense mesh but that's not that important and can be left later.

What if I want that extra detail and smoothness that only TS can give? It's not like im going to do closeups of the tire tread but at least I wanted to model it nicely. TS before bend is out of the question, too many poly waste for my computer to handle :P

Thanks guys, will give a try again today.

But you don't need to collapse it. Just have the Turbosmooth modifier under the Bend one and you can toggle it on or off just as if it was on top of everything.

Unless you have an issue with the visible seam; but in my case, the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa of the 1198, the tyre seam is very visible in the real ones too.

i think u should bend the final shape, so convert or smooth everything before bending...this way u should not have problem, i modeled this tire too (mine was a bit older i think, as it was a bit different...but at first i found ur same problem...i got back a couple of undos a converted evrything in Hi-poly and it works very well (1ml faces for one tire XD that was my first one and my laptop kept crashing lol)
There's nothing better than staring at a product you modeled on a screen getting into production and coming to reality.

If you are not going to do it close up, using TS. is a waste. Alternatively you can select faces, then click on 'mesh smooth' or 'tessellate' under edit poly spinner (NOT The modifier) and specify which area need to be smoothed
