anyone having this issues were you go from panning to zooming or arc rotate and inbetween every switch you get like a 1-2 sec lag? i am currently running 2012 with the latest fixes and i have a dual Xeon 5650 (24cores) with nvidia quadro 4000 12 gigs ram, ive heard updating bios drivers work but ive done all that and cant seem to get rid of that lag. The model am using in the scene is about 3 mill polys which isnt much i think, (lexus LFA), whats weird is that when using maya it runs great with no lag!
why is it weird that maya runs it great with no lag when it has always been a gazillion of times better regarding viewport performance than max?
They claim a major improvement in viewport performance though, for the 2012 version. It s a bit late ......Well, just like maya in tons of stuff that doesnt work since version 1. Thanks autodesk.
I also have about 4 mil polies and my system is way lower than yours, and I dont get any lag. 2012 max viewport performance is so much better than earlier versions (at least for me), so I guess its software problem. And I also use Nitrous. Maybe something is messed up in Nvidia control panel.
Oh and that cpu model has 12 threads not cores so you have 12 cores and 24 threads I guess.
It could be your VGA driver, you checked and see if you have installed latest driver? I have Nvidia Quaddro 2000 which is lower end above yours, I don't have lag issues..And even on other computer with older VGA -- Nvidia GeForce 8600gt, there is slightly lags on it, only if have 4 viewport demonstrating at same time...
It could be the driver or some issues with your hardware.
i updated all my drivers for my card also but i found this thread on area.autodesk, and Ken was saying its a "hit testing" here check out the link its about the third post down he goes more in depth with it
Maybe not top solution but If you have Nview Desktop Manager installed. Try to disenable it, It could stop the lagging issues in 3ds Max 2012 with Nitrous viewport.
