Tips for utilizing the power of a machine with 3DSMax and Vray?

I have just updated, and by updated, bought, a new PC for 3DS Max and Vray as I am trying to go Professional with it. I was wandering what tips people had to make my PC as it is, faster, as I havent noticed a lot of difference from my old machine, to this new one, which cost... £600 more...

    Here be the specs:

    Dell XPS 8300
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 5770
    12GB RAM DDR3

    Old PC:

    ZooStorm
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
    Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
    4GB RAM DDR2

I do not game on this PC, I solely wish it as a workstation, a more powerful workstation.

I am not fully aware of, if there are any, tips for utilizing as much power as possible for use with 3DS Max 2012, and Vray 2.0, the only one I am aware of is increasing the Dynamic Memory Limit in Vray, although that doesn't really change much.

Thanks for any useful tips, if you have any.

For rendering it's only CPU which you can overclock. With watercooling you can get something like 25% increase in rendering speed. if it's 2 gigs of ram or 12 wont change anything in speed.

Yup. And as a side comment, i personally dont find ATI the best choice, which would be NVIDIA. From years of reading many different threads NVIDIA regarding compatibility issues, is clearly the best choice.
Anyway, your machine specs are pretty ok, i suppose. Enjoy your new baby Click here to enlarge

I think the difference between the graphic cards are pretty small. The new is not that much better than the old one.
