How many of you guys are using the vray car paint shader and how many still make custom shaders? and why do you use the one you use?

It depends what are you aiming for, the vray carpaint has built in flakes which are harder to create manually but I still make my own shaders because I can get the exact result as I want, but vraycarpain is nice too I just didn't explore it, but here is a comparison between my own shader and vraycarpaint:
    guess which is which :P

Nothing like building custom shaders to suit your needs (with total control), instead of being driven by parameters u dont really control.
Harder.... But it pays off. My opinion.

You know...VRayCarpaint consume lot of memory and render speed due to quality of flake map, so....the purpose of using VRayCarpaint Mat is to give metallic flakes effects at close up not distance. It'd be pointless adding VRayCarpaintMat if you re about to render at distance which you could barely see it and suffer lengthly of render time compared to standard-regular type of mat such as VRayBlend for carpaint.

As matter of fact, in real life photography.. you won't get to see flakes at distance So... Use VrayBlend if rendering at distance... VrayCarpaintMat if rendering at close up.

    Hope that helps

i normally use blend, but vray carpaint is really handy if you know how to use Click here to enlarge i had problems at the beginning but now its working really great.. if you have problems with the flakes, you have to tweak the size of your model Click here to enlarge
