    Laptop for school (maya)

    Hi guys,

I'm starting at International Game Architecture and Design soon and therefore I need a new laptop (school).
I have to use it for about a year and have got around 1000-1200 euro to spend on it.
What do you guys recommend me?

I need to use it mainly for Autodesk Maya, High poly modeling and rendering.

    Thanks in advance!

I would say, HP Pavilion dv8 would be best choice, because of it's 18,4" display and of course good hardware. You can get 8gb ram + i7 + Nvidia graphics for about 1200€

good luck Click here to enlarge

Get Alienware Laptops... It's very much compatible on every 3d programs or games software... likewise your plan as Game Architecture/Design... This may be pricey, but I promise you won't regret having this. Based on my experience on owning this, I can not once remember of having problem with hardware.

    Visit Alientware

Yes, Alienware is another good choice to the Clevo. Good choice Equinox. HP dv8 and the alike computers, are clearly "a bit" out of the question in my opinion. They are just standard computers for allround tasks, as are the toshibas, Asus, etc.
For 3D i think you ll need something more special than the normal computers sold in normal shops. You gonna spend the money anyway, so, spend a little bit more, and have a BIG more out from itClick here to enlarge.....Plus, they are totally configurable, like any desktop. You pick the components you want in them.... Taylor made to your needs.

Well, I have to stick at max. 1200 euro (+/- $ 1650) because I'll have to buy a new one every year because it will be too slow after a while.
So Alienware isn't really an option for me (in my pricerange that would be a 15,6 " screen, which is tooo small for me. I atleast need a 17" screen.
And I couldn't find a CLEVO supplier in Holland. I really need a dutch company.

I have no knowledge about hardware or what so ever so I really need help on this one.

well, i m sorry to say then that within your price range, you will not find a suitable laptop. Even a top of range toshiba satellite, and alikes, cost more.
Cant u do with a desktop?.... For that price range, u could get a decent desktop.
I would never spend 1400 euros on a laptop that would not perform.
Clevos, cost the same as alienware, basically.
So..... Hmmmm...i understand u perfectly. i had same problem 6 months ago.
Was very painful for me to spend 2000 euro on a clevo. But it paid off..... The machines are really good stuff, and it was a good (painfull) purchase. The same applies for alienware. Expensive, but still better value for money.
So, there you go, you have my personal opinion (and experience) on the subject.
Wish u the best of choices. Good luck manClick here to enlarge

Hi there, I'm back with some questions.
I've been looking around for a while now and came to this configuration.
Do you guys think it can handle some high poly modeling and some good rendering in maya?

    - Intel® CoreTM i7 2630QM (2GHz/6MB cache)
    - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits
    - 17.3" HD+ WLED True-Life (1600x900)
    - 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz (Will 6 GB help alot?)
    - 500 GB SATA 7200 rpm
    - 3072MB NVIDIA GT555M GeForce
    - 9-cel lithium-ion (90 wH)

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance!

FYI, I don't have 1500 or 2000 euro to spend, max is 1000 euro.
