in my version under misc, there's just the checkbox 'show PI-VR logo' and nothing else Click here to enlarge
The root node actually was selected when creating the light.
I went through every possible node and there was none related to the light.

    prefinal...
finally I rather took the HDRI than the studio, perhaps i'll do some studio rendering as well.
Can anyone tell me how I can get better antialiasing for the ambient occlusion? I rendered this with nearly all settings at max, but it seems I did not hit the right ones. What is IBL Sampling?
I hope postwork is allowed?! At least I did not find any rules about that. I'd like to add some blurry reflections on the ground Click here to enlarge

okay, turning up IBL quality did make better AO, so forget about that question Click here to enlarge

    OK, just to clarify

AO and IBL are two different beasts

AO just samples a hemisphere around a certain 3D position assuming that the object is lit by a homogen diffuse environment. It does not know anything about specific lighting. AO creates something that just looks good for the eye but is not correct.

IBL samples the environment so you get real smooth shadows.

need to let off some steam ... Click here to enlarge
a minute ago was the approximately 30th time today VRED crashed... Rebooting scene takes two minutes each time. That's eating up my nerves :banghead:
Is VRED so bloody buggy or is it just my 'slow' pc? I cannot understand why it just crashes every 10th time or so changing from opengl to raytracing mode... woaaah Click here to enlarge

And then there are those strange situations when the car just disappears followed by every other geometry and there's no way to get it back. Or like the render window resized to a small square letting the rest entirely black when i actually edited the shadow material... I don't get it Click here to enlarge

sorry guys, I know you are working on it, but i just needed to tell you that :buttrock:

Sorry to hear that, I have never seen something like this. What is your exact hardware configuration ?

The NVIDIA card should be fine, as long as you have a pretty recent driver installed. Can you check within the taskmanager how much memory VRED Photo consumes until it crashes. I suspekt you are running out of memory, that happens easily when using big HDRIs, especially when you are switching between OpenGL and Raytracing.

Do you have the possibility to upgrade main memory ? Adding another 2GB could be a wise investment (and cheap).

yeah that's what I though as well. Taskmanager shows 775k for VRED only, FreeMem tells me that all in all 75% of the capacity is used while raytracing+aa.
I use WinXP and I think it does not support 4gb of ram, does it? Well, upgrading does not really make sense to me anyway, because I notice that the performance really is not good anymore operating 3d-programs, especially such as VRED.

Guess I should prefer second place and just buy me the rest of a new pc. Would be the best solution ...

Well 775K sounds a bit too low, so I think the OS has already swapped out parts of the scene to disk. Otherwise I cannot explain these low values.

I am not sure if upgrading an old dual core system makes sense, otherwise memory is dirt cheap and with a trick you should be able to use approx 2.5GB on 32bit systems.

For longer usage I would suggest buying an icore7-920 cpu and accompanying mainboard, stick some 6GB main memory into it and a nvidia 260 gtx, should be best bang for the money.
