I wanted to share some work in progress I do in my spare time. I spend like 3 weeks already on these two cars . I had much help from takerfimbul and his Nissan GTR ( see this thread: http://forum.cg-cars.com/showthread.php?t=6918 ) for blueprints , reference images and big assistance! Thanks a lot man. I spend too much time on few things mostly on the bumper but still, have to fix many things there. So no wires for that part yet! The Ferrari F430 is until yet, not so hard to do compared to the GTR but I guess the hardest parts will come soon. I started it after the GTR so I had some slight better workflow on it. Sometimes I spend too much time on figuring out the right polyflow ( try and try and come to no end) but I think everything will work out and the time is worth doing so.
I also have some environment projects going on, animations, rendering parts.. so this is just one little part of everything.
Wow Exidge... I think its my first time to see you posting your WIP after always being Mr. VRay-Renderman. So far, I don't think I detect any errors as of yet,You re doing pretty good. BTW, Just curious.. I understand takerfimbul's GTR were modled in Rhino... assume he export it into 3ds max using some type of exporter tool like NPower or so...? if so how did that mesh appear to have "Polygon-like mesh instead of tessellation?
Again, your work looks good... looking forward for more updates.

Thanks man. Hmm ye the mesh become like that because exidge told it to be. Haha, just kidding. That would be interesting. But all I had from him were blueprints of the car and reference images. I said no wires of the bumper because the wire sucks there and is too dense (was the first part I worked on ). So this is exidge's tesselation. Hehe. Btw this is Maya :P
And you criticised my choice of rims on the F430 =p Though I agree its better than mine, but doesn't fit it. Anyways nice of you to finally show it =D looking good man.
wow exidge this is quite the surprise and even more you're using maya i expected you to use max (im pretty sure a lot of people will say this this or have already said this), looking forward to see more updates

Cheers,

Maya? Why Maya? I have been noticing that everyone's start using or switching to maya from Max, XSI or etc,, and that 3ds max is beginning to fade away??
Exidge, I am curious to know... what do you find best about Maya? is it less PITA than Max? Does it give easy or flexible on modeling techniques than Max?

you must be kidding me! never seen you model before but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the quality. Looks amazing exige. the "fillets" on the gtr (admittedly it's not nurbs but that seems like the applicable term) make the edges look bang on. I know you'll render this well.
Thanks guys, it's Maya because I think it has some more powerful tools. I actually model in both apps, but the workflow in Maya when it comes to modeling is so much enjoyable than Max. First of all the navigation which is very similar to AST or RHINO and it's very nice to navigate with it. And the tools I have there , let's just take a simple bevel (chamfer in max) does the edges in the right way. I dunno why they can't fix that in 3DS MAX . But anyway , when it comes to rendering... I'd still stick with Max. And no doubt MAX is good for modeling, and I'm not the very experienced modeling guy, but I also do modeling in max and I feel for myself that Maya is a better app for this case. There are some more advantages imo. I could show you a simple example if anyone is interested.
Rodder, yes you are right. I did the GT-R at first (which was kind of study) and I noticed that later on. I looked nice on close up but I know it's bad. So now I hope I'm able to fix that correctly soon.
By the way, this is not a thread where I can take everything on myself, I had a lot of help let it be Maya or MAX from some of my friends. You know who I mean. Thank you!
