ANIMATION : Testing MR with an old friend

This is a test render using a very simple mental ray production shader setup - only the car and a matte plane, and a simple gradient map for environment, 4 spots and 1 skylight. It was rendered at 720x480 but YouTube has managed to screw that up with horrible anti-aliasing. :banghead: I messed up the camera timing - I am re-rendering the animation (takes a while) with better camera work.

If anyone wants I can post a link to the MP4 file.

Using an older version on the model. Wil try and use this setup for another model.

Ken is not bad Click here to enlarge He likes the Escort (MK2).

Here is the master - Colin Mcrae. Look at the unbelievable speed of his Red MK2 through the narrow roads. Drifting bewteen walls and bridges. Click here to enlarge

    Just amazing ....

I was very lucky to get a drive in his special Red MK2 last year, driven by his dad. His Brother Alistair came on after and drove the Ari Vatenen escort sideways all around the track (from 5:00 onwards) !! I took this video :

I found out that my video looks bad because you need to be VERY CAREFUL with square - non-square pixels, regardless of the actual resolution. So a 720x480 file will fil the screen because the pixels are actually twice as wide as they are tall.

Not that YouTube explain that anywhere. :banghead:

I will try and get a good video uploaded soon. I need to see where to force YouTube to encode my video in the correct aspect ratio - or remake all my 720x480 videos in 853 X 480. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

You live and learn. I hope this helps anyone else with YouTube problems. Click here to enlarge

Why don't you try Vimeo instead of youtube? Perhaps, it'll work out better for you. IMO, I think vimeo has better video quality.

Yes, I'll have to look at Vimeo - or just host it on my own website.

    Latest quick test : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyu7uMHeI6k

    Resolution has much less anti-aliasing.
