    Volkswagen Mk1 Golf Collaborative

Hi guys. First post for me Click here to enlarge So this is my first 3D car. Its been an ongoing project for a a couple months now. I've had a lot of help from 2 friends, one of who I think is on this forum Click here to enlarge I couldn't find blueprints for the car so I created my own. I drive a Mk1 Golf so I used it to create the blueprints. I only started working in Max a few weeks ago. I had some knowledge of Solid Works from my studies but that too was very limited.
I've remodeled the front end panels many times and each time it got better. I've still got a lot to learn but I'm very pleased with the result so far!

    Comments welcome!

    Memeber too

Hi here I am, I will be joining in this effort too... some of you might remember me telling you something about it a while back... finally it's happening. As for Gavin, you rascal, I wish I was able to do what you're doing only two weeks after picking up Max. Glad I could help you get into it fast(ish).

Now the idea here is for us all to learn from each other, with 3 friend so far that'll take part in this. At some point us friends might share meshes, but would likely create our own (hopefully in parallel). Materials we'd probably share too as well as render settings so we can compare equally and use the best each's materials to create something stunning - hopefully.

In some small way I hope that this could be a thread a lot of Newbies come to to learn as well. I hope to have some work posted up not too far in the future.

Another idea is to have some fun with the Mk1 once we have a completed mesh, but perhaps, more about that later... think Bonneville, think Army, to name but a few, but for now nothing is a given and we'll just see how far we get.

Dude! IT'S HAPPENING! Heh thanks for the kind words. I hope my efforts thus far have gotten you excited about the project. I think it will be a great projects for newbs to learn from, you are right. I've got a lot of questions, one being how to model glass. I created a map for the headlights which works dandy when you render it from a front view but a 3/4 view of it looks weird. Anyways will get to the Q's in a bit, want to prowl the forum and soak up the goodness! Click here to enlarge

    Hey man!

    Welcome!

I have a good feeling about this! It looks like a very nice start! Your blueprints are nice too! Maybe you would be nice enough to share them in the blueprint section!

Also if you could post some wires of this WIP too that would be cool!

Well I thought I'd just post an update. I haven't touched 3D modeling in months and I had a go at it last night am WOW, I am rusty! The plan now is to do this whole car properly. The previous model was fairly accurate but I didn't do it to scale (I was still learning 3d, and still am heh) and so I'd have to spend a lot of time tweaking it where I'd rather just start from scratch.

Seeing as I drive a Mk1, Ive taken a measuring tape to every panel, every bit of detail so now the three of us will have blueprints that are a bit more accurate, plus I spent time shooting my car from above as to create an accurate top view which will help the modeling. I also have spare parts that I can have at my desk and model, metal bumpers, end caps, handles, mirrors etc. I am thinking of modeling these to scale just to get back into it all. I modeled the bumper last night, well some of it. This was a challenge for me so you can imagine how rusty I am, hah. It is to scale so at least the three of us can share these parts Click here to enlarge
