Amazing Effects... DOF, Bokeh Blades, and dust particles! But one thing... It just need little color and style touch up. Heres example on attached...I did it for you, If you don't mind.... Just wanted to do it to kill my boredness.
Petter and Dave hmm.. I guess each individuals has their own film effects/style tastes... As matter of fact, since John Zi left Bokeh Blades and dust particles there.. I decide to go after Film effect style not photography. As if it was at pause mode without distortions.
I just applied that based on real world and from what I have studied or understand... Lot of film tend to have hues, contrasts, saturation or noisy.. that is because of apertures that gives better pictures where they can film anywhere at anytime.. Not only that but they said it was also the cool style they could get.
In Photography, its lot different... You don't usually to see much of Bokeh blades or dust particles...
So, again like I said, everyone has different tastes or styles.

Petter@ I believe JohnZi got this effect through AE plugin called Optical Flare... Hope I am not mistaken. Its the only plugin I know that can give this effect (A LOT Better than Knolls Light Factoru) I am thinking about buying this one day.
Dave@ Oh sure Your 1981 Canon AE-1 have dust particles and bokeh, Most older camera do. When most camera were new... they have fresh coating on lens which will prevent from strong lights going into camera and damage the film or camera inside. And when you take pictures in 1981, you won't see dust particles on picture. You see, The dust particles isn't the actual dust particles that create effects on picture... Its the damage of the lens coating....As the year went by, the neglectfulness as photographer become. The dust build on and sit onlens coating and when dust have to move by nature call or someone blows at it, they create scratches on coating... The Lens coating were EXTREMELY sensitive in the early 70/80's.Also. aluminum surrounding on Lens breaks off and lays or skid on lens coating when it bumps around on other object or from the frequent closing and opening caps and fell onto lens coating causing scratches... That's why Camera is made of plastic nowadays. So what you are seeing is the "Speckles" from worn-out coating, and the "hole" allow light to go into lens, creates bokeh blades (Hex ones you see on pictures). As matter of fact, its hard to see dust on lens if you re focusing on objects, the dust would be out of focus.
As for the film effect, when you see dust particles... Its not actually coming from lens, it come from outside... Most film camera has wide open aperture which allow enough light to go into camera also more than enough to capture dust from the POWERFUL glaring light. (Spotlight). Thats why most end of film are hue, contrasted, and saturated also noisy.
MOST Professional photographer HATES the throwback picture style... They thought that was cruel thing to do to camera at, thought that throwback picture style is one that make or bring them rookie moment. Compared to "Illusion-minded" artist/photographer.
Hope I have educated you some more?? I learned all from my professional photographer/filming friend. and books indeed
