yea a ref would give us a better idea of what kind of matte u are looking for but basically use a vray material pick your color and set it to reflect 100 or set it to reflect as Fresnel and then adjust your glossiness setting at around .3 to .6 that is what i usually do. and then u also adjust your highlight to what suits you best.

Try material with low Refl. glossiness value. But its hard to explain exact material settings, because it is depends of lighting and environment.

ok here's my test a littlebit noisy but render time is long Click here to enlarge.I used hdri only to see how reflections act on paint, but i think now it's missing one layer of lackquer this is fast setup i'm tweaking it now.

yeah, the key thing is that matte paint isn't always completely matte. unless you're using primer on a hot rod, it often has a clear coat that's kinda like satin. it gives it some smoothness and nice reflections without being glossy. you could probably start with a regular car paint mat and tweak the clearcoat imo.

    regards,
    rodder

    @ stalker:
    that looks very good
i´d reduce the reflectivity of the paint shader though. just a matter of personal taste.
