I didn't know his method for the tires was a secret . I was only asking if he used polymodeling, NURBS or some kind of map. Because I have been thinking about it, and modeling a tire in AST must be nearly impossible. Maybe a solid modeler would be better suited for that.
there is no secret, tyres are poly modelled, and they are exidge's.
i was willing to model the continental sport contact instead cos they are the stock ones.
anyway, last render with more contrast only on the car layer. Actually i play with color correction for greys and blacks. Better control than only playing with contrast which can make some details desappear.
thats great, you improoved a lot your renders, congrats!
the only off is the background colour, that, in my point of view, doesnt match the car's colour and overall ilumination... Try to usa a neutral one, or a blueish/greenish.
hey , very nice and accurate model, clio rs is one of my favorite cars, i was wondering can u make the blueprints of your model? stunning work once again
about the technique in details :
- main structure, treads and others little things are polymodelled into max
- sidewall writings and flag patterns are done like this :
drawn into Illustrator (or Flash)
exported in .eps format into Alias (or Rhino)
projected on a surface. Then the surface is trimmed, meshed and exported back into max where i extruded the boundaries.
i'll maybe write a quick tutorial if i find time.

thats a good technique and yea a tutorial would be very nice if you have time that is.
at last, two renders - maybe the last ones or nearly.
I'll maybe spend some time on the tut on the sidewall before closing this project.
remember, first lines in AST were drawn more than 2 years ago... so it's time to move to another thing - don't know yet and have other projects running -
enjoy and thanks for theses 2 years of crits and support !
