very nice tutorial. you could just as easily model the tire sidewall that way as make it into a bump map.

    regards,
    rodder

    True.

    Thanks for posting.

I have an even easier way, using Photoshop and 3Ds Max (and hardly any modelling) for creating Bump Maps. If I get some spare time I'll post it.

I agree with Rodder... Modeling sidewall and place it on surface of tire sidewall would make better render result than adding a bump map. Not only that, it'd quick up render speed, less hassle with all of lights since bump map requires it.

Domino-- While back ago, I did exact same way as you do... except for rendering it at 800x800... If I were you I d go for 2000x2000 or more.. Large size bump image makes better bump result. But good tuts anyway (Thumbs up)

    Hi
this 800x800 is just a sample (better results are coming with bigger resolution and AA settings of course), I can post bigger if anybody wants
and what about Modeling sidewall and place it on surface, the question is how to place correctly on surface, IMO there is ShapeMerge I think, correct me if wrong

//edit: yeah and here is 3000x3000
