That looks amazing! Looking at the smoothness I'd say it was nurbs throughout, but it's polys? Now even I would like to see some wires Click here to enlarge

but may i know whycha switch from max to maya, would be interesting to know
i switched from max to maya 1 year ago because we are using maya here at work. i use max and vray only for rendering.

completely modeled in maya (smooth 1 optimized), rims are nurbs. i had a CAD mesh of the stock car as reference.

    here some wires...

element, are you saying that you're fiddling with vertecies at that density level?? Or what do you mean by "smooth 1 optimized"?

I think he means that at some point for one reason or anothern he set the
iterations to 1 and then converted it to editable poly.

Possibly when all the work was done and there was some tricky seam\cut to do
and the higher density would come in handy.

And no, he didnt fiddle with that density level.

i think i see a few tris on your wheelClick here to enlarge just to check, since my memory of maya is bad, your wire is with smooth applied or is it that dense (yeah, it's the same question as cwikdahl)

So it's like BB wrote, kind of a multi level sub-d workflow with no going back: Start out quite rough, apply smooth, delete history, tweak/model at smoothed level and finally apply one iteration of smoothing for rendering?

It's something I've thought about but never tried for real.

I've never tried slamming a 1 iteration smooth and making it an editable
poly, i think its something you do either when all the edges\seams are done
or before all the edges\seams are done, for instance, if you need to make
a tricky indent in the side of a car, its reasonable to do it for last with a 1
iteration smooth to keep surface continuity. but still i'd be hesitant for it :x

Anyhow, nice car element, what about some test renders? :x
