I'm starting a new Studiotools modeling exercise: An audi S5 rim.
(I have in the idea to model the car later on, but let's start with some nicely done rim!)
If you're looking for something to model, it could be a nice way to compare the way we are approaching the object (StudioTools users!).
The basic set up of the .wire file (Studiotools) is available here for download.
- The file isn't set up with units!
- Here are some more exterior references pictures of the Audi S5 coupe.
So if you're filling to model this Audi spoke and talk about it, drop a line.
I'll be posting later on the evolution of my work...
Well, it seems that I didn't found a partner to model this mag.
...However...I did it.
So here's what's my modeling looks like.
The surface in the front of the rin the 'wavy' one is a trimed surface, and the other ones (on the sides of the 'wavy' one) are rail surface
Up to here everything goes right.
After then I just mirror the part (72 degres based rim) to get this in order to begin the fillets.
This was the initials surface (continuity between them)
But in order to make the round tool to work I had to modified the base surface this way.
The round tools didn't work up to the top (I've tried to modified radius, the way surfaces were built, during one afernoon)...So I finally did this part by hand.
Cool progress chupicho, im currently modeling the S5, but my rim choice will be different Id just like to warn you about some lines you need to work on. Note on the second picture it seems that the line is curved in two directions instead of just being an arc like on your model. Other than that in think youre right there
Hi o.b. Your comments are absolutly right, thanks for taking time to illustrate what you mean. In regards of what you said I would even go futher: I simplified to much the inner part.
Nice job. I will follow your progress with the whole car. I started the S5 with Maya nurbs but soon ran into trouble. Doing AST tuts as we speek but I will probably switch car...
One comment about your brake disc and caliper: They need to be about 4 times as thick. That thing would overheat and break instantly
o.b. : I've been working 6 month on AST (It's my first 3D software, I had no 3D skill before).
I think I have enought reference for the main body (I did the blue print set up this morning)... Maybe modeling details car part, i'll need some more reference, I'll let you know.Thanks.
cwikdahl : Thanks for the caliper comments (it's always better to have good brakes!)
motojc : We all agree with you, I didn't pay enough atention to the inner surface.
The revolve surface including the outside border could have been a solution
but not the only one i Think.

And it will be a strage question for advanced users, but when i put a backgroud image (using the command file > import > image plane), the image apear, then, when i finish to use the program and close it and another time I open it, the image desapear! and i must do all steps again, like "file > import > image plane", and it take a lot of time... I saw on your file, that the image don't desapear, how did you do that? did you use the "image plane" or another kind?
I found the problem! ignore that mensage please, thanks for the help!
