    great tut dave but the sidewall in the last pic points the wrong way. still, i really knowing about how to make such a sexy tire without millions of polies. it's probably the right way to do it.

    No problem at all. That is why I posted them on my website. They are there for everyone. Hopefully people can find them useful. Which 3D forum ?

    I have a way to make the actual sidewall texture using photoshop and 3DS max. I'll add that soon. (been busy playing with interior archhitectural rendering Click here to enlarge WHOLE new area for me).

    @rodderworld : Wrong way, Really ? Which bitmap ?

    As an exercise making a super high-poly tyre is fine - and good experience. But in a production environment you would be shot for taking so long and using so many polys. And unless you render at a literally HUGE size, you will never really see close in to the tyre hiding under the car Click here to enlarge

    The real art is doing something simple that looks correct/complex/detailed when rendered. Click here to enlarge

    i believe in one of the recent pics the goodyear text faces outwards and i can swear it should face inwards but that's not really the issue. i agree entirely about the poly count. for hobbyists it might be tempting to do it if you have nothing but time on your hands but i honestly can't see why you would invest so much time/polies for even massive posters like in airports.
