It is one of the official tutorials that come with Max but you can download it from Autodesk.
It is VERY informative and everybody who is serious about using Max should read it - as it covers all types of lighting not just MR. The MR stuff was written by one of the MR guys. You can't get better than that.
In fact, there were many people asking recently in the Forum the most basic of questions who have never even bothered to engage their brains and try any tutorials that came with max. I can only presume those people are too thick to learn (it only takes a little thought to try the included tutorials), or didn't download an official version. I am not going to be so kind from now on to newbies who ask the most basic of questions without at least using some thought and putting some work into it.
It is common practice in research of a topic to do a literature review. Find out what has been done before. Learn from others. Read. Find out how and how not to do something. Get experience. No point re-inventing the wheel. Previously this involved using Libraries, but in this day and age with the Internet everybody can do that while sitting on their arse - so no excuses not do to it.
And, of course, back that up with experimenting yourself ...
I've posted another thread with official AutoDesk 3DS Max Tutorial links and will make that a sticky too.

Just a few words of thanks for the great piece on modeling and
surfacing the headlight in Max.
Looks so easy when someone who knows what they're talking
about explains it. I wish I was someone who could get 4th or 5th
time round.
Cheers again I,ll post my efforts if they turn out ok.
