Why cant you have a beginners and advanced section from the off? It comes across as a bit arragant to me that people that arent pro cant show their work. Im not trying to put a downer on the idea or anything id love to see the pros work, but i think the majority of 'average' modelers are whats going to keep it afloat rather than just relying on the odd 1 or 2 pros to come and post one picture every few months. My predictions come from the already existing sections, beginner and advanced get lots more threads than high end, if none of the other sections existed apart from high end i would assume no one would come here.
There are already vibrant Forums for Beginners, Advanced and Hi-end modellers. And many other sections open to all.
The whole reason of this dedicated Forum is to showcase what can ultimately be achieved. What the pros do. I don't expect it to be a lively Forum.
And, as has been commented on in the "what would you like to see more of", I too would find it very interesting to see what people who do this for their living can truely create with all their resources, and possibly a little background into their working techniques.
As an analogy, I am sure that those who go hiking and climbing at the weekends are still fascinated with talking to someone who has climbed Everest, and gain encouragement from them.

I took a web design class in college. I was told by an expert, "Just becase you build it doesn't mean they will come"
That said. This forum needs some heavy consolidation. There are just too many forums for too less people. This si a nice site but its barely alive. Not being mean but honest. I heard some hear say it here.
This isn't cgsociety. 25-30 Forums. Way too many for so few active members. Honestly I'm trying to help. Some days I look at the front page and it barely changes in one day.
Like I said its a nice site/idea but people aren't eating. Simplify MANNN!!, lol. I say make this site easy. Dumb it down. and Drop some rules. This place is too strict. It seems only two people run this site. Too small for your ideal. its scarey to come in and see all those forums and then your confused to which forum your suppose to go into.
You've come to the wrong Forum if you want it dumbed down. We don't cater to the lowest common denominator. It takes hard work and skill to achieve the best results - that can't be dumbed down. We are not, nor ever have been, the "Dummies guide to CG Car modelling". While offering crits and advice to beginners, we also cater to those who are improving their skills and want to continue improving.
The recent traffic figures show that far from it being "barely alive", CG-Cars is in fact increasing in popularity. People are "eating".
There are more than 2 people running the show. There is a thread introducing the CG-Cars team. Go read it. All offering their services for free. Running a Forum is a time-consuming passtime. Yet you say : "Too small for ideal". Why ? Show me one example where we need more people ?
Strict : care to elaborate ?

Well, I didn't mean giving away secrets in a literal sense. I'm not expecting the pros to really give much away, but some hints or tips, general descriptions on how they went about achieving a certain result and stuff like that, I do expect, and I thought that was part of the idea behind this forum section? If not, what more would it be than just a place to look at fancy renders of cars? I can do that now by visiting websites of the respective companies...

That is my intention - if you read the very first post : "Hopefully with a little insight into their creation."
I can perfectly understand that the contributors will not explain all their methods in detail, but I hope that we can get some sort of background into the images : How detailed is the car model, what renderer do they use, do they use custom HDRIs, How much compositing, Render farm, PC setup, Time for renders, time to complete project, etc.

great idea ... i like modeling - but i`m not to much at rendering/composing ...
Members can create some cool colab projects together ... once again - GREAT IDEA :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:
I think he means that when you first get here you have to decide which thread to post your wip in, with strict rules for each. Ive seen many a site fail with this seperation of class, because its easier just to go somewhere like cgtalk or smcars and post it in one big thread. No seperation of class or requirements to get into a section.
And you need more traffic in the high end section ^^ thats the only reason i come here, probably only visit two times a month to check if its updated, most of the other modelers post on smc or sumthing anyways.

iam a little pissed off. you coms here, for using cgcars to advertise your site and now you told us what we have to do with our site? this is a bit of a stretch.
for the others:
there will be comeing some new stuff at cg-cars soon. we are working hard on it backstage.

Well god sorry. This was like a year ago my friend, views change. And I do, at least recently, put a link on my site to yours. Don't be mad I meant no disrespect. The truth is the truth. Human beings like simple more than complex. As of now I am a college graduate and I can tell you now as a professional. I'm working on my site in the background also. My currently;y layout is not the best design and is nearly 2 years old. I got a lot of issue to fix myself.
I do what I do for the community. I don't profit. In fact I lose 5-10 times more money than coming. Plus what it would cost to have someone design, write, and program each article. I don't feel our relationship, if you can call it that, is not one sided. Maybe lopsided but their isn't much I can do at the moment. But if you keep in mind your link is on every single page of my website, every! So hopefully whenever I get a spike in visits I hope you get part of what I get.
I hope that in the future we can work together. I am looking to become affiliates with you guys or any other cg site that would like to work together. If it upsets you that I post my cg car related news just let me know. Maybe we can work this. Its always good to talk. I mean I don't wake up in the morning thinking of pissing you off. Please reply. with your opinions.
And remember, at least with me, don't automatically go negative. I'm an extremely nice person, not perfect, Too nice actually. If you want some advice on design I'd be more then happy to help you guys out. ANd I hope the redesign is successful.
