Welcome to the CGCars Corporate Identity Challenge, sponsored by EVGA, Moment of Inspiration, and Razer!

It's been a while since our last official contest, so we knew our members would be expecting something special, and we didn't disappoint. This years' challenge introduces one of the hottest prize packages of any community contest to date, including EVGA, MOI, and Razer, and an even hotter theme and content with the fire-breathing 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe.

The theme, CGCars, will challenge participants to create a unique scene and branding in which to capture our contest vehicle. Participants will be provided with a complete 3D model, minus wheels and tires, so you will need to model these items and add the CGCars branding to either the vehicle, or somewhere in the scene. You then need to submit one closeup and one wide shot of the scene, with the CGCars branding in plain sight and easily recognized. Sounds simple enough, huh?

If you've got what it takes to blow our minds, you might just take home one of the most powerful graphics cards on planet Earth, a lifetime seat to MOI's industry-storming NURBS modeler, or a mouse from the company that busted the maze. So what are you waiting for? Get to work and show us what'cha got!

      Registration Closed

      Instruction

Please read the instructions carefully to avoid having your work rejected - that would be embarrassing. If you have any questions, please contact us right away to avoid delays in your submission. Registration will close on September 29th, no exceptions. Download links for contest materials, and links to your WIP thread, will also be provided at this time.

      Step 01
      • Participants will be provided with a contest package containing an FBX model, a Maya model, and GC Cars logo package in high-resolution PNG format via PM on 30th September. There are no restrictions on the modeling or rendering software used.
      Step 02
      • The contest model - a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe - will be supplied fully detailed, excluding wheels and tires. It is your responsibility to model the wheels and tires. Wheel size / type and vehicle stance are entirely up to you.
      Step 03
      • The rendered scene (Studio or Outdoor) must include CG Cars branding, using only the provided logo files. Placement and amount of the logos is entirely up to you - wheels, tire branding, vinyls, etc. Also, the vehicle and scene should be properly detailed with materials / textures. The final result should looks like a commercial shot. You have to post Wires of your modeled rims and tires in your WIP Thread. Wires will not be accepted in the final submission.
      Step 04
      • Participants will be provided with a WIP thread to post their progress for community discussion, and to post their final submissions. Final submissions must be high-resolution PNG format, sized 1920 x 1280. Links to your WIP thread will be provided on September 30th via PM.
      Step 05
      • Final submissions are due by October 29th. Winners will be announced on October 30th. First thru third place winners will receive a PM requesting shipping information for their prize, where applicable.

Winner sucks I mean first place: very grainy, environment is just an image (not 3d), CG-cars logo is mapped as a matte shadow material or even in photoshop (color burn), reflection of the car is incorrect, tire bump is too much.... And look in thous headlight optical flares, it's just too much, i mean it's like three ears old child drawing of the sun Color correction of overall image i think is over done too

Lets be honest but right, about 15 people was working on this project day and night to finish it on time, 5 days you didn't give us any news, after 5 days you said you will announce winner on 5th, on 5th you again delay announcement, I don't use to this disrespect, and you didn't even apologised.... One of the winners even didn't done what you asked for (1920x2080). And what is your judge? Do they even work on 3d and understand what hard work is to make a 1920x 1280 image? I don't know what to say, shame on you.....

He used just a fascy HDRI....

mynameisoscarjo, well, may by I'm little jealous, but I'm mad just for 5 days silence and I'm feeling not apresheated here. I work REALLY HARD on this. I will do image like 1st place winner in 1 day, it's just 5 or 6 materials in all image and with no textures (well tires and environment has texture). In my image there was about 50 materials and mannnnnnny textures...... If they said that they need something like yours images..........

Jeez man, sorry you feel that way... Was an awesome contest to see come together.

Sure you didn't win but it's not a reason to be a dick to all the others about it...

The image itself(lighting, texturing, geometry detailing) is awesome but i think your scene would have looked better if your camera was at a slightly lower angle(wide shot). The camera angle is a bit neutral/boring in this shot.

Also seeing as the theme was corporate-id you've missed the point a little. The logo is there in both shots but it's swamped by all the other things around it whereas in the other entries it's clear and simple....

Take this as you like but i think these is the reasons....

ps. As i said this is MY opinion...

What I used for my Contest Entry:
Wings3d(Free) to model the Rims Brakes Brake pads and Tires.
UVMapper(Free) to create the UV Map for the Viper Shell.
Daz Studio 3(Free) to set up the scene, Shaders and position the cameras. Also Used Michael 4 (Daz character) to sit in the car.
Reality Plugin Created by Pret-a-3D(Purchased from Daz): this plugin exports all the materials lights and cameras to LuxRender.
LuxRender 0.9: This is what I used to render the full scene. No Postwork done other than adding a flare :P

Congrats pix.amant! Your images are superb, i love the simplicity of it aswell as the color scheme! Also EquiNOX was my 2nd favourite

@Geo: sometimes, less is more, and this is the case. Imo, the #1 is well deserved. Your image is too 'dreamy', and your texture is totally off regarding the theme of cg-cars. Might be complex, but it has nothing to do with CG-Cars.
